Panama New Year's Week

December 28, 2016 - January 1, 2017

Ideas. Action. Music.

Machetes. Blisters from yesterday's hike. The tropical sun. Waking up to the sounds of howler monkeys in the distance. Cooling off in crystal clear, spring fed rivers. 150 new friends. New skills and knowledge from gurus in their fields. And a New Year's Party under the lights and fireworks of thriving Panama City. This is New Year's at Kalu Yala.

150 of our favorite people are coming to the jungle this year.  We’ve invited back the same crew as last year, but knowing life pulls us all in many directions, we’ve given them the right to pass their invitation on to new guests if they can’t make it.  In addition, we have 50 more tickets we are giving to new friends we’ve made over the last year.  Need an invite?  Ask somebody who knows us!

What Else Should I Expect?

We are known for our 70% local farm to table menu provided by two pop up restaurants. Two bars offer beers after hikes and drinks into the night. By popular demand, we are adding masseuses to the good times.  Waterfall Hikes, Paradise Diving Rocks, Yoga, Horseback Riding, Rainforest Ecology, and Volleyball are great additional activities.  And our river is lined by pocketed white sand beaches and swimming holes for sunbathing and relaxing.

we can answer that

underline
  • What’s included in my event ticket price?

Almost everything. Transportation to and from the event venue, Kalu Yala. Comfortable camping accommodations. All food and non-alcoholic beverages. All event programming and on-site activities, including farm tours, introduction to rain forest ecology classes, a hike to an amazing waterfall deep in the jungle, and horseback riding. Plus, a double bed in a shared room at a 4 star hotel in Panama City, along with an unforgettable New Year's party there. You just need to buy your airfare and your drinks.
  • What is the food like?

The event will have two restaurants on-site, both included in your event fee. One is vegetarian, the other is a contemporary take on traditional Panamanian cuisine, which typically involves more meat. Our food is pretty stellar.
  • How do I get to and from the event at Kalu Yala?

Staff will be waiting with your travel itinerary to pick you up from either the airport or the city, depending upon where you are. Shuttles will also be prepared to take you back to the city or airport based upon your post-event itinerary.
  • What about drinks?

All non-alcoholic drinks are included. There are two bars serving the event, both of which are cash bars. Any “profit” from these bars goes to the event volunteers. Beers are $1 and well is $3 and top shelf is $5. Have at it.
  • If I’m coming early, how can I meet up with you?

After you fill out your event questionnaire, we will let you know when and where to meet the shuttle and of any pre-event gatherings in Panama City.
  • What event facilities exist?

Restaurants are gathered around our “town square” of thatch buildings and a covered courtyard dining area. Group talks and concerts take place in our terraced outdoor amphitheater with the stage set under a beautiful tree. Outdoor classrooms and break out spaces are in place for workshops and smaller discussions.
  • What are the accommodations?

Accommodations are private, walk-in, nylon tents. Air mattresses are standard. You will essentially only sleep and store your things here. And on New Year's Eve, we move you to a beautiful hotel in the heart of Panama City.
  • What about bathrooms?

Kalu Yala is off-the-grid, but we provide campsite style flush toilets and hot showers. Alternatively, we also have composting toilets available and beautiful rivers to rinse off in after a long day.
