Kalu Yala offers 20% scholarships to applicants in Latin America, 50% to those in Panama, and 100% to our neighbors in San Miguel. We do our best to work with all accepted applicants, though, and can arrange monthly payment plans.

Increased tuition in 2017 is due to increases in staff and infrastructure as well as greater specialization among staff members. Some examples include: roughly half of the instructors and senior staff members have advanced degrees and all have several years professional experience and/or university level teaching experience, a full-time nurse and a full-time mental well-being counselor, free Spanish classes, increased farm and  kitchen staff, increased solar power and internet capacity, additional company vehicles, improved student housing, etc…

What Tuition Includes (aside from incredible instructors and mentors)

  • Sleeping arrangement specific to the venue: Interns in programs based in the Kalu Yala valley have the choice of an air mattress in a thatched rancho or may bring their own hammock. For San Miguel programs, interns stay in a shared bunk room
  • Meal Plan on weekdays with vegetarian and gluten free options
  • Project Supplies
  • Optional complimentary Spanish classes
  • Laundry facilities for San Miguel- based programs (Valley based students are encouraged to hand wash and hang dry clothing but may use these facilities when visiting San Miguel or our Panama City venue)
  • Airport Shuttle Transportation 3 days before the start and after the last day of the program
    • Note: We strongly suggest arranging to arrive in Panama before noon the day before your semester begins. Orientation begins bright-and-early the following morning!

Additional Financial Aid Information:

Many participants have received financial aid or scholarships from their schools. The best way to look into possible grants or scholarships is to speak with your adviser and/or study abroad office about getting your program at Kalu Yala approved for school credit. Applicants can request a syllabus for the program they applied to which may need to be presented to their school. If approved for credit, students should have access to their school’s normal financial aid and scholarship opportunities.
